Postcard Direct Help

Unlike other postcard services, Postcard Direct can allow you to email the postcard directly to the recipient rather than the recipient getting a ticket and accessing the web site to view their postcard.

Recipient Email - This is the email address of the person you want to send the postcard to.  You can specify as many email addresses as you like separated by commas.  You can also opt to send as BCC (blind copy) to each individual's address you have listed.  It is very important that you have typed the email addresses correctly in order for your postcard to be sent to your recipient.  This is required.

Recipient Name - This is the name of the person you are sending the postcard to.  Their name will appear in the greeting.  This is required.

Sender Email - This is the email address of yourself.  This is required.

Sender Name - This is your name.  This is required.

Subject - This will appear as the email subject.  This field is optional.

Postcard Design - You can choose from two different postcard designs.  There is a horizontal (postcard beside text) and vertical (postcard over text) design to choose from.  Use the Preview Postcard button to get an idea of what each one looks like.  In the future, possibly more designs will be added.

Please Note - When you choose one of the larger postcards it would be best to choose the vertical postcard design.

Music - Choose one of the midi songs to play with the postcard.

Send Formats
There are 2 choices of formats to send the postcard in.

  1. Send to users with standard email accounts.
Choose this option if the recipient uses an email client like Outlook Express, Netscape mail, Eudora etc.

  2. Send to users with web email accounts.
Choose this method if the recipient uses web mail (eg: Hotmail, Yahoo etc), or you are unsure what sort of mail client they use.

Additional info -

There are a some limitations using the Postcard Direct method of sending the postcard to the user via email as there is no set standard for handling HTML formatted mail. There shouldn't be a problem if the recipients mail client handles MIME correctly.
The following limitations are known about:
  * A number of web mail sites (eg: Yahoo, Hotmail) will disable or strip certain tags.  Yahoo will disable "BODY BACKGROUND=xxx" tags, along with any and APPLET tags. You should make sure you design your postcard with a text colour that will be visable on a white background.
  * For some reason the Netscape mail client (for all versions up to 6.x) ignore embedded midis.  It will work fine if the postcard is sent in web mode   * Due to continuing changes in a number of web mail interfaces, midis will not be able to be heard on sites like Hotmail and Yahoo mail.
* Eudora mail client handles HTML mail in a very peculiar way, although the latest versions seem to work much better.
